Wonton Soup
Ingredients:
For the Wontons:
- 250g (1/2 pound) ground pork or chicken
- 100g (1/4 pound) shrimp, finely chopped (optional)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 1 egg (for binding)
- 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
- 30 wonton wrappers
For the Broth:
- 6 cups chicken stock
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Optional: sliced bok choy or spinach for garnish
For Garnish:

- Chopped green onions
- Fresh cilantro (optional)
Instructions:
- Make the Wonton Filling:
- In a bowl, mix the ground pork (or chicken), shrimp, soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, chopped green onions, egg, and white pepper until well combined.
- Assemble the Wontons:
- Place a wonton wrapper on a clean surface.
- Add about 1 teaspoon of filling in the center.
- Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water, fold into a triangle, and press to seal. Bring the two bottom corners together and press them to seal. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
- Prepare the Broth:
- In a pot, heat the chicken stock. Add soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, and minced garlic. Let it simmer gently for about 10 minutes. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.
- Cook the Wontons:
- Bring a separate pot of water to a boil. Add the wontons and cook for about 4-5 minutes or until they float to the surface. Remove with a slotted spoon.
- Combine and Serve:
- Transfer the cooked wontons to the broth. Add optional greens like bok choy or spinach if desired, and let them wilt for 1-2 minutes.
- Ladle the soup into bowls and garnish with chopped green onions and cilantro.
