Flaky Buttery Flatbread

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted butter (for the dough)
  • Softened butter (for layering)
  • Additional oil or butter (for frying)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and sugar.
    • Gradually add warm water and vegetable oil or melted butter.
    • Knead until the dough is soft and smooth, about 8-10 minutes.
    • Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  2. Shape the Dough:
    • Divide the dough into equal portions and roll each portion into a ball.
    • Flatten each ball into a disk with your hands or a rolling pin.
  3. Layer with Butter:
    • Spread a generous amount of softened butter on each disk.
    • Fold the disk to enclose the butter (e.g., fold into a triangle or roll it up, then flatten again).
  4. Rest the Dough:
    • After buttering and folding, let the dough rest for another 10 minutes to relax the gluten.
  5. Cook the Flatbreads:
    • Heat a non-stick skillet or frying pan over medium heat and grease lightly with oil or butter.
    • Cook each flatbread for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and flaky.
    • Press down gently with a spatula to ensure even cooking.
  6. Serve:
    • Serve warm as a side dish or snack. These flatbreads are perfect with dips, soups, or even as a standalone treat.

Tips:

  • Add herbs, garlic, or cheese to the butter layer for extra flavor.
  • Adjust the thickness of the flatbreads to your preference; thinner ones will be crispier, while thicker ones will be softer and chewier.

Enjoy these buttery, flaky flatbreads! Let me know if you’d like variations or additional ideas.
