“Homemade Seasoned Herb Crackers”

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons dried herbs (such as thyme, rosemary, or oregano)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Coarse salt for sprinkling

Instructions:

Preparing the Dough:

  1. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix together the flour, salt, sugar, dried herbs, and garlic powder.
  2. Add Butter: Incorporate the chilled butter using a pastry cutter or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Form the Dough: Gradually add water to the mixture, stirring until the dough comes together. You might not need all the water, so add it slowly until the dough is manageable but not sticky.

Rolling and Cutting the Crackers:

  1. Chill the Dough: Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat Oven: While the dough is chilling, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  3. Roll Out the Dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/8-inch thickness.
  4. Cut the Crackers: Use a cookie cutter to cut the dough into desired shapes. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Dock the Crackers: Prick each cracker a few times with a fork to prevent them from puffing up during baking.
  6. Sprinkle Salt: Lightly sprinkle the crackers with coarse salt.

Baking the Crackers:

  1. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the crackers are golden brown and crispy.
  2. Cool: Remove from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve these homemade crackers as a snack, or pair them with cheeses, dips, or spreads at your next gathering.

Tips:

  • Herb Variations: Feel free to experiment with different dried herbs based on your preferences.
  • Consistency: If the dough is too dry, add a bit more water. If too sticky, add a little more flour.

Enjoy your homemade seasoned crackers, perfect for a savory treat!
