Ingredients:

- 3 1/4 cups (400g) all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 1/4 tsp (1 packet) instant yeast
- 3/4 cup (180ml) warm milk (around 110°F/45°C)
- 1/4 cup (60g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large egg

- Prepare the Dough:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
- Add the warm milk, softened butter, and egg, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8–10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 6–8 minutes.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Prepare the Filling:
- If using sweet fillings like chocolate spread or jam, ensure it is thick to avoid leaking. For savory fillings like spiced meat or cheese, prepare and cool it beforehand.
- Shape the Bread:
- Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8–10 equal portions.
- Flatten each portion into a disc and place a spoonful of filling in the center.
- Pinch the edges together to seal the filling inside, forming a ball.
- Arrange the filled dough balls seam-side down in a greased or parchment-lined round baking dish, placing one ball in the center and the others around it to form a flower shape.
- Second Rise:
- Cover the shaped bread and let it rise for another 30–40 minutes.
- Bake:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Brush the bread with the egg wash for a golden crust.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown.
- Cool and Serve:
- Let the bread cool slightly before serving. It can be pulled apart for sharing or sliced for individual portions.
