Fried Green Tomatoes

Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, Fried Green Tomatoes are a timeless Southern favorite. They’re easy to make, packed with flavor, and perfect as an appetizer, snack, or side dish with your favorite dipping sauce.
Ingredients
4 medium green tomatoes
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cornmeal
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon paprika
2 large eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk
Vegetable oil, for frying
Preparation Steps
Slice the green tomatoes into 1/4-inch thick rounds and lightly pat them dry with paper towels.
In one shallow bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, breadcrumbs, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk until smooth.
Dip each tomato slice into the egg mixture, then coat thoroughly in the flour mixture. Press gently so the coating sticks well.
Heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C).
Fry the tomatoes in batches for 2–3 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
Transfer the fried tomatoes to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
Serve immediately while hot with ranch dressing, spicy remoulade, or your favorite dipping sauce.
Serving Tip
Sprinkle with a little flaky sea salt and chopped fresh parsley just before serving for an extra burst of flavor and a beautiful finish.
