Savory Sausage Pastry Recipe

 

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground sausage
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried sage
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend)
  • 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Filling:
    • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground sausage until browned. Drain any excess fat.
    • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the onion is soft and translucent.
    • Stir in the dried thyme, dried sage, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 2 minutes.
    • Remove the skillet from the heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
    • Once cooled, mix in the shredded cheese.
  2. Assemble the Pastries:
    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
    • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheets. Cut each sheet into 6 squares.
    • Place a spoonful of the sausage mixture onto the center of each square.
    • Fold the corners of the pastry over the filling, sealing the edges by pressing them together.
    • Place the filled pastries on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. Bake the Pastries:
    • Brush the top of each pastry with the beaten egg to give them a golden color when baked.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastries are puffed and golden brown.
  4. Serve:
    • Garnish with freshly chopped parsley if desired.
    • Serve warm as an appetizer or snack.
