Chocolate Mousse

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (plus extra for topping)
  • 3 large egg whites
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Melt the Chocolate:
    • In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until smooth. Allow the melted chocolate to cool slightly.
  2. Whip the Cream:
    • In a large mixing bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream until stiff peaks form. Be careful not to overbeat. Set aside.
  3. Prepare the Meringue:
    • In another bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form.
    • Gradually add the granulated sugar and continue to beat until stiff peaks form.
  4. Combine Ingredients:
    • Gently fold the melted chocolate into the whipped cream until well combined.
    • Add the vanilla extract and gently fold in the meringue until no streaks remain. Be careful not to deflate the mixture.
  5. Chill the Mousse:
    • Spoon the mousse into serving bowls or a large container.
    • Top with extra chocolate chips for garnish.
    • Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until set.
  6. Serve:
    • Serve the chocolate mousse chilled.
