Baked Ham and Cheese Rolls

 

Ingredients:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 8 slices of deli ham
  • 8 slices of Swiss or cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise (optional)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds or sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the Pastry:
    • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet to smooth out any creases.
    • Cut the pastry into 8 equal rectangles.
  3. Assemble the Rolls:
    • Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard and mayonnaise on each pastry rectangle (optional).
    • Place a slice of ham and a slice of cheese on each rectangle.
    • Roll up each pastry from one end to the other, enclosing the ham and cheese.
    • Place each roll seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Add Finishing Touches:
    • Brush the tops of the rolls with the beaten egg to give them a golden finish.
    • Sprinkle with poppy seeds or sesame seeds if desired.
  5. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  6. Serve:
    • Allow to cool slightly before serving. These rolls are perfect as appetizers or a tasty snack.
