- 2 large apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil)
For the Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Prepare the Batter:
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- In a separate bowl, combine the milk, beaten egg, and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
- Fold in the chopped apples.
- Fry the Fritters:
- Heat the oil in a deep-fryer or large heavy-bottomed pot to 375°F (190°C).
- Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pot.
- Fry the fritters for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fritters to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Prepare the Glaze:
- In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Drizzle the glaze over the warm fritters, or dip each fritter into the glaze for a thicker coating.
- Serve:
- Serve the apple fritters warm, with a cup of coffee or tea.
These apple fritters are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a delightful dessert. Enjoy the warm, sweet, and slightly spiced flavors!
