Banoffee in a Can Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 cans of sweetened condensed milk (for caramel)
- 3-4 ripe bananas, sliced
- 2 cups of crushed digestive biscuits or graham crackers
- 1/2 cup of melted butter
- 1 cup of whipped cream
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- Chocolate shavings (optional for garnish)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Caramel:
- Remove the labels from the cans of sweetened condensed milk.
- Place the unopened cans in a large pot of water, ensuring they are completely submerged.
- Bring the water to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook for 2-3 hours. Make sure to keep the cans submerged by adding water as needed.
- Carefully remove the cans from the water and let them cool completely before opening. This will be your caramel.
- Prepare the Crust:
- Combine the crushed digestive biscuits or graham crackers with the melted butter.
- Press the mixture into the bottom of serving glasses or jars to form a crust.
- Assemble the Banoffee:
- Once the caramel cans are cooled, open them and spoon the caramel over the crust in each serving glass or jar.
- Add a layer of sliced bananas over the caramel.
- In a separate bowl, whip the cream with the vanilla extract until it forms soft peaks. Spoon the whipped cream over the bananas.
- Garnish with additional banana slices and chocolate shavings if desired.
- Serve:
- Enjoy immediately or refrigerate for an hour to allow the flavors to meld together.
Tips:
- Ensure the cans of sweetened condensed milk are completely cooled before opening to avoid any risk of burns.
- You can use store-bought dulce de leche as a quicker alternative to making your own caramel.
