Breaded Chicken/Fish Patties with Creamy Gravy

 

 

 

Ingredients:

For the Patties:

  • 2 cups cooked and shredded chicken or flaked fish
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (for coating)
  • Oil for frying

For the Creamy Gravy:

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • Salt, to taste
  • Fresh parsley or thyme for garnish

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Patties

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the chicken/fish, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, egg, mayonnaise, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Mix until the mixture holds together. If it’s too dry, add a little more mayonnaise or a splash of milk.
  3. Shape into small patties and coat each in breadcrumbs. Set aside.

Step 2: Fry the Patties

  1. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  2. Fry the patties until golden brown and crispy on both sides, about 3–4 minutes per side.
  3. Remove and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Step 3: Make the Creamy Gravy

  1. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the flour and whisk until combined, forming a roux. Cook for 1–2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.
  3. Gradually whisk in the milk and broth, ensuring no lumps.
  4. Add garlic powder, black pepper, and salt. Cook until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.

Step 4: Assemble

  1. Place the fried patties on a serving plate and pour the gravy generously over the top.
  2. Garnish with fresh parsley or thyme.
  3. Serve immediately and enjoy!
