Breaded Chicken/Fish Patties with Creamy Gravy
Ingredients:
For the Patties:
- 2 cups cooked and shredded chicken or flaked fish
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (for coating)
- Oil for frying
For the Creamy Gravy:
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup chicken or vegetable broth
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp black pepper
- Salt, to taste
- Fresh parsley or thyme for garnish
Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare the Patties
- In a mixing bowl, combine the chicken/fish, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, egg, mayonnaise, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Mix until the mixture holds together. If it’s too dry, add a little more mayonnaise or a splash of milk.
- Shape into small patties and coat each in breadcrumbs. Set aside.
Step 2: Fry the Patties
- Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
- Fry the patties until golden brown and crispy on both sides, about 3–4 minutes per side.
- Remove and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Step 3: Make the Creamy Gravy
- In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
- Add the flour and whisk until combined, forming a roux. Cook for 1–2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.
- Gradually whisk in the milk and broth, ensuring no lumps.
- Add garlic powder, black pepper, and salt. Cook until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
Step 4: Assemble
- Place the fried patties on a serving plate and pour the gravy generously over the top.
- Garnish with fresh parsley or thyme.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
