Cheesy Sloppy Joe Bread
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 large loaf of French bread or 4 hoagie rolls, sliced in half lengthwise
- 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend)
- Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish
Instructions:
- Prepare the Meat Mixture:
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, and garlic to the skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes, until the vegetables are softened.
- Make the Sloppy Joe Sauce:
- Stir in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, salt, black pepper, paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using). Mix well.
- Add the water and bring the mixture to a simmer. Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened.
- Prepare the Bread:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Place the sliced French bread or hoagie rolls on a baking sheet, cut side up.
- Assemble the Sloppy Joe Bread:
- Spoon the meat mixture evenly over the bread slices.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheese generously over the top of the meat mixture.
- Bake:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish and Serve:
- Remove from the oven and sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley for garnish.
- Serve the cheesy sloppy joe bread hot.
