Cheesy Smothered Pork Chops
Ingredients:
- 4 bone-in or boneless pork chops
- Salt and black pepper (to taste)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or a cheese blend)
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Fresh parsley (for garnish)
Instructions:
- Season the Pork Chops:
- Sprinkle pork chops with salt, pepper, paprika, and onion powder on both sides.
- Sear the Pork Chops:
- Heat olive oil or butter in a skillet over medium-high heat.
- Sear the pork chops for 3–4 minutes on each side until browned. Remove and set aside.
- Prepare the Sauce:
- In the same skillet, sauté the onion until soft and caramelized (about 5 minutes).
- Add garlic and cook for another minute.
- Pour in the chicken broth, scraping the bottom of the skillet to release browned bits.
- Stir in heavy cream and thyme. Simmer for 3–4 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Combine Pork Chops and Sauce:
- Return the pork chops to the skillet.
- Spoon the sauce over the pork chops and sprinkle cheese on top.
- Bake or Simmer:
- Oven Option: Transfer the skillet to a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) and bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the pork chops are cooked through.
- Stovetop Option: Cover the skillet and simmer on low heat for 10–15 minutes.
- Garnish and Serve:
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or vegetables.
