Chocolate Custard Pudding Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Custard Layer:
- 4 cups milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 6 egg yolks
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
For the Chocolate Layer:
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup dark chocolate, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 4 egg yolks
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For Garnish:
- Cocoa powder (for dusting)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Custard Layer:
- In a large saucepan, combine 4 cups of milk, 1 cup of heavy cream, and 1 cup of granulated sugar. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is hot but not boiling.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup of cornstarch and 6 egg yolks until smooth.
- Gradually pour the hot milk mixture into the egg mixture, whisking constantly to prevent the eggs from curdling.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
- Remove from heat and stir in 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract.
- Pour the custard into a large bowl and cover with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface to prevent a skin from forming. Let it cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until chilled.
- Prepare the Chocolate Layer:
- In a saucepan, combine 2 cups of milk, 1 cup of heavy cream, 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, and 1/2 cup of cocoa powder. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is hot but not boiling.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup of cornstarch and 4 egg yolks until smooth.
- Gradually pour the hot chocolate mixture into the egg mixture, whisking constantly to prevent the eggs from curdling.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
- Remove from heat and stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and the finely chopped dark chocolate. Stir until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
- Pour the chocolate custard into a bowl and cover with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface. Let it cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until chilled.
- Assemble the Pudding:
- Once both the vanilla custard and chocolate custard are chilled, take a large serving bowl or individual serving glasses.
- Pour the vanilla custard into the bottom of the serving dish, spreading it evenly.
- Gently pour the chocolate custard over the vanilla layer, spreading it evenly.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until the layers are set.
- Garnish and Serve:
- Just before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder for a finishing touch.
- Serve chilled and enjoy your rich, creamy Chocolate Custard Pudding!
