Classic Bread Stuffing Casserole Recipe
Ingredients:
- 8 cups bread cubes (day-old bread works best)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 3 celery stalks, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 teaspoons dried sage
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 1/2 cups chicken broth (or vegetable broth for a vegetarian version)
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions:
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a large baking dish or casserole dish.
- Prepare Bread Cubes: Spread the bread cubes in a single layer on a baking sheet. Toast in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes, or until slightly crispy. Remove from the oven and let cool.
- Cook Vegetables: In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, celery, and garlic. Cook until the vegetables are tender, about 8-10 minutes.
- Season: Stir in the dried sage, thyme, rosemary, salt, and black pepper. Cook for an additional 2 minutes to let the flavors blend.
- Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the toasted bread cubes and cooked vegetables. Pour in the chicken broth and mix well. Add the beaten eggs and fresh parsley, stirring until everything is well combined.
- Bake: Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish. Cover with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the stuffing to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your classic bread stuffing casserole!
