Crispy Fried Chicken Drumsticks

 

Ingredients:

  • 8 chicken drumsticks
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Chicken:
    • In a large bowl, mix the buttermilk with a pinch of salt and pepper. Add the chicken drumsticks, making sure they are fully submerged in the buttermilk. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
  2. Prepare the Coating:
    • In another large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper.
  3. Prepare the Egg Wash:
    • In a separate bowl, beat the eggs until well combined.
  4. Coat the Chicken:
    • Remove the drumsticks from the buttermilk, allowing any excess to drip off. Dip each drumstick in the beaten eggs, then dredge in the seasoned flour mixture, ensuring an even coating. For extra crispy chicken, you can repeat the egg and flour coating process.
  5. Heat the Oil:
    • In a large, deep skillet or frying pan, heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry the Chicken:
    • Carefully add the coated drumsticks to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry the drumsticks for about 10-12 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. The internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C).
  7. Drain and Serve:
    • Remove the fried drumsticks from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil. Serve hot and enjoy!

Tips:

  • Ensure the oil temperature remains consistent for even frying.
  • Let the chicken rest for a few minutes before serving to allow the coating to set.
