Decadent Chocolate Mousse
Ingredients:
- 200 grams (7 oz) dark chocolate, chopped
- 3 tablespoons butter, unsalted
- 3 eggs, separated
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
Instructions:
- Melt the Chocolate:
- In a heatproof bowl, combine the chopped dark chocolate and butter. Place the bowl over a pot of simmering water (double boiler method) and melt the chocolate and butter together, stirring occasionally until smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- Whip the Egg Whites:
- In a clean, dry bowl, beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt using an electric mixer until soft peaks form. Gradually add the granulated sugar and continue to beat until stiff peaks form. Set aside.
- Whip the Cream:
- In another bowl, whip the heavy cream with the vanilla extract until it forms soft peaks. Be careful not to overwhip the cream.
- Combine the Ingredients:
- Add the egg yolks one at a time to the slightly cooled melted chocolate, mixing well after each addition.
- Gently fold in the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture until combined.
- Finally, fold in the beaten egg whites gently until no white streaks remain. Be careful not to deflate the mixture.
- Chill:
- Spoon the mousse into individual serving dishes or glasses. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until set.
- Serve:
- Serve chilled, optionally garnished with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or fresh berries.
Enjoy your delicious and creamy chocolate mousse!
