Fruit Trifle Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 sponge cake or angel food cake, cut into cubes
  • 2 cups of vanilla custard or pudding
  • 2 cups whipped cream
  • 2 kiwis, peeled and sliced
  • 2 bananas, sliced
  • 1 cup raspberries
  • 1 orange, peeled and sectioned
  • 1 cup mango, peeled and diced
  • Optional: additional fruits like strawberries or blueberries
  • 1/4 cup orange juice or sherry (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Cake Layer:
    • Place a layer of cake cubes at the bottom of a large trifle dish. Lightly drizzle with orange juice or sherry for added moisture and flavor (optional).
  2. Add the Custard:
    • Pour a layer of vanilla custard or pudding over the cake to cover it completely.
  3. Create the Fruit Layer:
    • Arrange a layer of mixed fruit slices (kiwi, banana, and mango) over the custard. For visual appeal, place some slices against the glass of the trifle dish.
  4. Add Whipped Cream:
    • Spread a generous layer of whipped cream over the fruit.
  5. Repeat Layers:
    • Continue layering cake, custard, fruits, and whipped cream. Adjust the amount and type of fruit per layer as desired.
  6. Top Layer:
    • Finish with a final layer of whipped cream. Decorate the top with an artistic arrangement of raspberries, orange sections, and any additional fruits.
  7. Chill:
    • Refrigerate the trifle for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to allow the flavors to meld and the cake to soften from the juices and custard.
  8. Serve:
    • Serve chilled, spooning out large portions to show off the layers.

This fruit trifle not only tastes exquisite but also makes a colorful centerpiece for your dessert table. The combination of fluffy cake, creamy layers, and fresh, juicy fruits offers a perfect balance of textures and flavors. Enjoy crafting and indulging in this delightful dessert!
