Garlic and Herb Bread Recipe
Ingredients:
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 ¼ cups warm water (110°F)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp fresh rosemary, chopped
- 2 tbsp fresh thyme, chopped
- 2 tbsp butter, melted
- Coarse sea salt (optional)
Instructions:
- Activate the Yeast:
- In a small bowl, combine warm water, honey, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Make the Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
- Mix until the dough comes together. Turn it onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- First Rise:
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
- Prepare Garlic and Herbs:
- In a small bowl, mix minced garlic, rosemary, and thyme. Set aside.
- Shape the Dough:
- Punch down the risen dough and turn it onto a floured surface. Flatten it slightly and sprinkle the garlic and herb mixture evenly over the dough.
- Fold the dough over a few times to incorporate the herbs and garlic throughout the dough.
- Second Rise:
- Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover it with a cloth and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- Bake:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the top of the loaf with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse sea salt if desired.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Cool and Serve:
- Allow the bread to cool on a wire rack before slicing. Enjoy warm with butter or as a side to your favorite dish.
This garlic and herb bread is perfect for serving with soups, salads, or as an appetizer with a dipping sauce. Enjoy your baking!
