Glazed Apple Fritters
These homemade apple fritters are crisp and golden on the outside, soft and tender inside, and filled with juicy apple pieces and warm cinnamon flavor. A simple vanilla glaze gives them the perfect sweet finish.
Ingredients
For the Apple Fritters
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
2/3 cup whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons melted butter
2 cups peeled and finely diced apples
Vegetable oil, for frying
For the Glaze
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
3 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preparation
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla, and melted butter.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir just until combined. Gently fold in the diced apples.
Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or saucepan to 350°F (175°C).
Carefully drop portions of batter into the hot oil. Fry for about 2–3 minutes per side, until deeply golden and cooked through.
Transfer the fritters to a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess oil.
Whisk the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Drizzle or spoon the glaze over the slightly warm fritters.
Serving Tip
Serve the apple fritters slightly warm while the centers are tender and the vanilla glaze is freshly set.
