Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Tomato and Herbs

 

Ingredients:

  • 4 slices of your favorite bread (sourdough, white, or whole wheat)
  • 4 slices of cheddar cheese (or your preferred cheese)
  • 1 medium tomato, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano or basil (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Bread:
    • Spread softened butter on one side of each slice of bread.
  2. Assemble the Sandwich:
    • Place two slices of bread, buttered side down, on a cutting board or plate.
    • Layer a slice of cheese on each slice of bread.
    • Add tomato slices on top of the cheese. Season the tomato slices with a pinch of salt and pepper.
    • Sprinkle dried oregano or basil over the tomatoes for extra flavor.
    • Top with another slice of cheese and then the remaining slices of bread, buttered side up.
  3. Cook the Sandwich:
    • Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.
    • Place the assembled sandwiches in the skillet.
    • Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  4. Serve:
    • Remove the sandwiches from the skillet.
    • Let them cool for a minute or two before cutting them in half.
    • Serve immediately and enjoy!

Feel free to experiment with different cheeses and herbs to suit your taste!
