Ham and Cheese Pinwheels
Ingredients:
- 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
- 1/4 cup Dijon mustard or honey mustard
- 8-10 slices of ham
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, Swiss, or your favorite cheese)
- 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
- Optional: herbs like chives or parsley for garnish
Instructions:
- Preheat Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- Prepare the Puff Pastry:
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet into a rectangle about 10×12 inches.
- Spread the Mustard:
- Spread a thin layer of Dijon or honey mustard over the puff pastry, leaving about a 1/2-inch border around the edges.
- Add Ham and Cheese:
- Lay the slices of ham evenly over the mustard layer. Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the ham.
- Roll the Pastry:
- Starting from one of the long sides, tightly roll the puff pastry into a log, making sure to keep it as tight as possible.
- Slice the Pinwheels:
- Using a sharp knife, slice the log into 1/2 to 1-inch thick pinwheels.
- Prepare for Baking:
- Place the pinwheels on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart. Brush the tops and sides with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
- Bake:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the pinwheels are puffed and golden brown.
- Serve:
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
These ham and cheese pinwheels are deliciously flaky and cheesy, perfect for any occasion. Enjoy them warm from the oven!
