Ham and Cheese Roll-Ups
Ingredients:
- 8 slices of white bread, crusts removed
- 8 slices of ham
- 8 slices of cheese (Swiss or cheddar works well)
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 3 tablespoons butter or oil for frying
Instructions:
- Prepare the Bread:
- Flatten each slice of bread with a rolling pin.
- Assemble the Roll-Ups:
- Place a slice of ham and a slice of cheese on each flattened bread slice.
- Roll up each bread slice tightly, pressing the seam gently to seal.
- Prepare the Breading Station:
- Set up three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs mixed with milk, and one with breadcrumbs.
- Bread the Roll-Ups:
- Dredge each roll-up in flour, shaking off the excess.
- Dip into the egg mixture, then coat with breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
- Fry the Roll-Ups:
- In a large skillet, heat the butter or oil over medium heat.
- Fry the roll-ups until golden brown on all sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Serve:
- Remove from the skillet and place on paper towels to drain any excess oil.
- Serve warm.
