Ham and Cheese Roll-Ups

 

Ingredients:

  • 8 slices of white bread, crusts removed
  • 8 slices of ham
  • 8 slices of cheese (Swiss or cheddar works well)
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 3 tablespoons butter or oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Bread:
    • Flatten each slice of bread with a rolling pin.
  2. Assemble the Roll-Ups:
    • Place a slice of ham and a slice of cheese on each flattened bread slice.
    • Roll up each bread slice tightly, pressing the seam gently to seal.
  3. Prepare the Breading Station:
    • Set up three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs mixed with milk, and one with breadcrumbs.
  4. Bread the Roll-Ups:
    • Dredge each roll-up in flour, shaking off the excess.
    • Dip into the egg mixture, then coat with breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
  5. Fry the Roll-Ups:
    • In a large skillet, heat the butter or oil over medium heat.
    • Fry the roll-ups until golden brown on all sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  6. Serve:
    • Remove from the skillet and place on paper towels to drain any excess oil.
    • Serve warm.
