Herb and Seed Bread Dough Recipe
Ingredients:
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose or bread flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 1/4 cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp dried oregano or Italian seasoning
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 2 tbsp mixed seeds (sesame, flaxseed, or chia seeds)
Instructions:
- Activate the Yeast:
- In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Mix the Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, dried herbs, and seeds.
- Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until the dough comes together.
- Knead the Dough:
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5-7 minutes.
- First Rise:
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning it to coat. Cover with a damp towel or plastic wrap.
- Let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
- Shape the Dough:
- Punch down the dough and shape it as desired: a loaf, rolls, or flatbread.
- Second Rise:
- Let the shaped dough rise again for 30-40 minutes.
- Bake:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake for 20-25 minutes (for rolls or flatbreads) or 30-35 minutes (for a loaf) until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
- Cool and Serve:
- Let the bread cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm or at room temperature.
