Homemade Butter
Ingredients:
- 2 cups (500ml) heavy cream or whipping cream
- Ice water (for rinsing)
Instructions:
- Churning:
- Pour the heavy cream into a large bowl or food processor.
- Beat the cream on medium-high speed. It will first turn into whipped cream, then separate into butter and buttermilk. This can take about 8–10 minutes.
- Draining:
- Once the butter separates, pour the mixture through a strainer to separate the buttermilk. Save the buttermilk for baking or cooking.
- Rinsing:
- Wash the butter with cold ice water to remove any remaining buttermilk. Knead it with a spatula under running cold water until the water runs clear.
- Seasoning (Optional):
- Add salt to taste if you want salted butter. You can also mix in herbs, garlic, or other flavors.
- Storage:
- Shape the butter into a block and store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
