Homemade Compound Butter
Ingredients:
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons fresh herbs (such as parsley, chives, or thyme), finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
- 1 tablespoon lemon zest (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Optional additions:
- Finely chopped sun-dried tomatoes
- Crumbled blue cheese
- Honey and cinnamon for a sweet version
- Roasted red peppers, finely chopped
Instructions:
- Prepare the Butter:
- In a medium bowl, use a hand mixer or a fork to whip the softened butter until it is smooth and creamy.
- Add Flavors:
- Mix in the finely chopped herbs, minced garlic, lemon zest, salt, and pepper until well combined. If you are adding other optional ingredients like sun-dried tomatoes or blue cheese, mix those in as well.
- Shape the Butter:
- Place the compound butter mixture onto a piece of parchment paper or plastic wrap. Shape it into a log or any desired shape. Roll it tightly and twist the ends to seal.
- Chill:
- Refrigerate the compound butter until firm, about 1-2 hours. For longer storage, you can freeze the butter.
- Serve:
- Slice the compound butter into rounds and serve on grilled meats, vegetables, bread, or use it to enhance the flavor of your favorite dishes.
Enjoy your homemade compound butter! It’s a great way to add a burst of flavor to any meal.
