Homemade Crispy Crackers Recipe

 

 

 

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder or onion powder (optional for flavor)
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried herbs or seeds (e.g., poppy seeds, sesame seeds, or oregano)
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) olive oil or melted butter
  • 1/3 cup (80ml) water
  • Extra salt for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, baking powder, garlic powder (if using), and herbs or seeds.
    • Add olive oil and mix until crumbly.
    • Gradually add water, mixing until the dough comes together. It should be firm but pliable.
  3. Roll Out the Dough:
    • Divide the dough into two portions for easier handling.
    • Roll out one portion on a lightly floured surface until very thin (about 1/8 inch or 3mm thick).
    • Use a round cutter or a knife to cut out shapes. Poke holes in each cracker with a fork to prevent puffing.
  4. Bake:
    • Place the crackers on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart.
    • Sprinkle with extra salt, if desired.
    • Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until golden and crispy. Watch closely to prevent burning.
  5. Cool:
    • Let the crackers cool completely on a wire rack. They will crisp up further as they cool.
  6. Serve:
    • Serve with dips, cheese, or enjoy them plain as a snack.
