Jalapeño Cheddar Focaccia Bread
Ingredients:
- For the Dough:
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 2 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
- For the Topping:
- 2-3 fresh jalapeños, sliced
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Coarse sea salt
Instructions:
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, and salt.
- Add the warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Shape and Top the Dough:
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Punch down the dough and transfer it to a greased baking sheet. Stretch and press the dough into a rectangle or circle, about 1/2 inch thick.
- Use your fingers to dimple the surface of the dough.
- Drizzle the dough with olive oil, and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
- Evenly distribute the shredded cheddar cheese and sliced jalapeños over the dough.
- Bake the Focaccia:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly on a wire rack.
- Serve:
- Cut the focaccia into squares or slices and serve warm or at room temperature.
