Magic Custard Cake Recipe
Ingredients:
- 4 large eggs, at room temperature
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups whole milk, lukewarm
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions:
- Prepare the Ingredients:
- Preheat the oven to 325°F (160°C).
- Grease and line an 8×8-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
- Separate the Eggs:
- Separate the egg yolks from the egg whites.
- Beat the egg whites in a large bowl until stiff peaks form. Set aside.
- Mix the Egg Yolks:
- In another bowl, beat the egg yolks with the granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the tablespoon of water and mix well.
- Gradually add the melted butter and mix until combined.
- Mix in the flour until just incorporated.
- Add the Milk and Vanilla:
- Gradually pour in the lukewarm milk while continuously mixing.
- Add the vanilla extract and mix until smooth. The batter will be very liquid.
- Combine with Egg Whites:
- Gently fold in the beaten egg whites, 1/3 at a time, until fully incorporated. The batter will have a lumpy texture from the egg whites.
- Bake the Cake:
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the cake is set. The center may still be slightly jiggly.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool completely in the pan.
- Chill and Serve:
- Once cooled, refrigerate the cake for at least 2 hours to allow it to set properly.
- Dust the top with powdered sugar before serving.
- Cut into squares and enjoy the layers of magic custard!
Tips:
- Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for best results.
- Use lukewarm milk to help the batter mix smoothly and prevent lumps.
- Be gentle when folding in the egg whites to maintain the airy texture.
Enjoy your delightful and magical custard cake!
