Ingredients:

For the Cake:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot water or hot coffee (coffee enhances the chocolate flavor)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

For the Chocolate Ganache:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (optional, for extra shine)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a bundt pan to ensure the cake releases easily after baking.
  2. Prepare the Cake Batter:
    • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until well combined.
    • Add the buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract, and whisk until smooth.
    • In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the hot water or coffee, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until the batter is smooth and well combined, but do not overmix.
  3. Bake the Cake:
    • Pour the batter evenly into the prepared bundt pan. Tap the pan on the counter a few times to remove any air bubbles.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
    • Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes before turning it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  4. Prepare the Chocolate Ganache:
    • In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Remove from the heat and add the chocolate chips.
    • Let the mixture sit for a few minutes to allow the chocolate to melt, then whisk until smooth and glossy. If desired, stir in the butter for extra shine.
  5. Glaze the Cake:
    • Once the cake has cooled, pour the chocolate ganache over the top, allowing it to drip down the sides of the bundt cake.
    • Let the ganache set slightly before slicing the cake.
  6. Serve:
    • Slice the cake and enjoy! This cake is delicious on its own, or you can serve it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
