Popovers Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup milk (preferably whole milk)
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
- Additional melted butter or oil for greasing the pan
Instructions:
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Place a popover pan or muffin tin in the oven to heat.
- Prepare Batter:
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
- In another bowl, beat the eggs until frothy. Add the milk and 1 tablespoon of melted butter, and mix well.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the egg mixture, whisking until smooth. The batter should be the consistency of heavy cream.
- Grease Pan:
- Carefully remove the preheated pan from the oven. Quickly grease the pan with melted butter or oil to prevent sticking.
- Fill Pan:
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan, filling each cup about halfway.
- Bake:
- Place the pan in the oven and bake for 15 minutes.
- Without opening the oven, reduce the temperature to 350°F (177°C) and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the popovers are golden brown and puffed up.
- Serve:
- Remove the popovers from the pan and serve immediately. They can be enjoyed plain, with butter, or with sweet or savory toppings.
Tips:
- Ensure the batter is smooth to avoid lumps.
- Preheating the pan helps achieve a good rise and crisp exterior.
- Serve popovers immediately as they tend to deflate quickly after being removed from the oven.
