Sausage and Cheese Puff Pastry Ring Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 package of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
- 500 grams of sausage meat (you can use any type of sausage you prefer, removed from casings)
- 1 cup grated cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional herbs like parsley or thyme for additional flavor
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
- Prepare the Filling:
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage meat with the onion and garlic until fully cooked. Break the meat into small pieces as it cooks.
- Season with salt, pepper, and optional herbs. Set aside to cool slightly.
- Once slightly cooled, mix in the grated cheese.
- Assemble the Pastry Ring:
- Roll out the puff pastry into a rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
- Arrange the sausage and cheese mixture down the center of the pastry.
- Make diagonal cuts along the sides of the pastry about 1 inch apart, then fold these strips over the filling, alternating from side to side to create a braided effect.
- Connect the ends to form a ring.
- Bake:
- Transfer the pastry ring to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brush the pastry with the beaten egg to give it a golden color when baked.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
- Serve:
- Let the pastry ring cool for a few minutes before slicing.
