Savory Sausage Pastry Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground sausage
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried sage
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend)
- 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Filling:
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground sausage until browned. Drain any excess fat.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the onion is soft and translucent.
- Stir in the dried thyme, dried sage, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 2 minutes.
- Remove the skillet from the heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
- Once cooled, mix in the shredded cheese.
- Assemble the Pastries:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheets. Cut each sheet into 6 squares.
- Place a spoonful of the sausage mixture onto the center of each square.
- Fold the corners of the pastry over the filling, sealing the edges by pressing them together.
- Place the filled pastries on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake the Pastries:
- Brush the top of each pastry with the beaten egg to give them a golden color when baked.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastries are puffed and golden brown.
- Serve:
- Garnish with freshly chopped parsley if desired.
- Serve warm as an appetizer or snack.
