Slow Cooker Baked Beans Recipe
This recipe is wonderful! I didn’t have to change anything!
Ingredients:
1 pound dried white beans (soaked overnight and drained)
1 large yellow onion, minced
3 cloves garlic, minced

3/4 cup molasses
1/2 cup packed brown Sugar
1/4 cup maple syrup
1/4 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon dry mustard

1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for warming). light)
4 cups water (or as needed)
8 ounces thick bacon, cooked and chopped (or substitute with smoked ham hocks)

Instructions:
Place the previously soaked beans in the slow cooker. Make sure there is enough room for expansion.Add the chopped onion and minced garlic.
In a bowl, combine molasses, brown sugar, maple syrup, ketchup, dry mustard, smoked paprika, black pepper and cayenne pepper. Pour over the beans.
Top with bacon or chopped ham hocks.
Add enough water to cover the beans.Adjust quantity if necessary.

Cover and cook over low heat for 6-8 hours until the beans are tender and the sauce thickens.
Variations and tips:
For a vegetarian version, leave out the bacon and add smoked paprika powder or liquid smoke instead.
Adjust the sweetness to your taste by adding more brown sugar or maple syrup.
A dash of apple cider vinegar provides a nice spicy contrast.Freeze portions for convenient company on busy evenings.
