Steamed Egg Custard (or Flan-style Dessert

 

 

 

 

Ingredients:

  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: caramel sauce (for the base)

  1. Prepare the Custard Mixture:
    • In a mixing bowl, beat the eggs gently.
    • Add milk, sugar, and vanilla extract to the eggs, whisking until well combined. Strain the mixture through a fine sieve to remove bubbles.
  2. Optional – Add Caramel:
    • If you’d like a caramel base, pour caramel sauce into the bottom of your steaming dish before adding the custard mixture.
  3. Steam the Custard:
    • Pour the custard mixture into a heatproof bowl or dish.
    • Cover the dish with foil or a lid to prevent water from dripping onto the custard during steaming.
    • Steam over medium heat for about 20-25 minutes, or until the custard is set. Check by inserting a toothpick or skewer—it should come out clean.
  4. Serve:
    • Let the custard cool slightly before removing it from the dish. Slice and serve as is, or with caramel or fresh fruit on top.
