Steamed Egg Custard (or Flan-style Dessert
Ingredients:
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1/3 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional: caramel sauce (for the base)

- Prepare the Custard Mixture:
- In a mixing bowl, beat the eggs gently.
- Add milk, sugar, and vanilla extract to the eggs, whisking until well combined. Strain the mixture through a fine sieve to remove bubbles.
- Optional – Add Caramel:
- If you’d like a caramel base, pour caramel sauce into the bottom of your steaming dish before adding the custard mixture.
- Steam the Custard:
- Pour the custard mixture into a heatproof bowl or dish.
- Cover the dish with foil or a lid to prevent water from dripping onto the custard during steaming.
- Steam over medium heat for about 20-25 minutes, or until the custard is set. Check by inserting a toothpick or skewer—it should come out clean.
- Serve:
- Let the custard cool slightly before removing it from the dish. Slice and serve as is, or with caramel or fresh fruit on top.
