Stuffed Cabbage with Meat and Cheese Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 large head of cabbage
- 1 pound ground beef (or a mix of ground beef and pork)
- 1 large block of cheese (cheddar or mozzarella works well)
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 12-15 strips of bacon
Instructions:
- Prepare the Cabbage:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cut the top off the cabbage and hollow out the center, leaving a thick shell. You can chop up the removed cabbage core to add to the filling if desired.
- Prepare the Filling:
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, paprika, oregano, and basil. Mix well until all ingredients are fully incorporated.
- Stuff the Cabbage:
- Fill the hollowed cabbage with the meat mixture, packing it tightly.
- Insert the block of cheese into the center of the meat mixture.
- Wrap with Bacon:
- Carefully wrap the stuffed cabbage with strips of bacon, overlapping them slightly to cover the entire surface.
- Bake:
- Place the stuffed cabbage in a baking dish. Cover with aluminum foil.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 30-45 minutes, or until the bacon is crispy and the meat is fully cooked.
- Serve:
- Allow the cabbage to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm.
