Surf and Turf Skillet with Saffron Rice
Ingredients:
- 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 lb steak (ribeye or sirloin), cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 cup red bell pepper, diced
- 1 cup green bell pepper, diced
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 cup saffron rice
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Lemon wedges for serving
- Fresh parsley, chopped for garnish
Instructions:
- Prepare the Rice:
- In a medium saucepan, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until translucent.
- Add the saffron rice and stir to coat the rice with the oil.
- Pour in the chicken broth, bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer until the rice is cooked and the liquid is absorbed (about 15-20 minutes). Fluff with a fork and set aside.
- Cook the Steak:
- In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter over medium-high heat.
- Season the steak pieces with salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Add the steak to the skillet and cook until browned and cooked to your desired level of doneness. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
- Cook the Shrimp:
- In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of butter.
- Season the shrimp with salt, pepper, and paprika.
- Add the shrimp to the skillet and cook until pink and opaque (about 2-3 minutes per side). Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
- Combine and Serve:
- In the same skillet, add the diced red and green bell peppers. Sauté until they are slightly softened.
- Return the steak and shrimp to the skillet, and toss everything together until well combined and heated through.
- Serve the surf and turf mixture over a bed of saffron rice. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve with lemon wedges on the side.
Cajun Shrimp and Steak with Bell Peppers
Ingredients:
- 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 lb steak (flank or skirt), sliced into strips
- 1 cup red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 cup green bell pepper, sliced
- 2 tbsp Cajun seasoning
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp butter
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- Fresh parsley, chopped for garnish

- Season the shrimp and steak with Cajun seasoning.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the steak strips and cook until browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- Add the butter to the skillet, then the shrimp, and cook until pink. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the bell peppers and minced garlic. Sauté until softened.
- Pour in the chicken broth and lemon juice, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
- Return the steak and shrimp to the skillet, toss to combine, and heat through.
- Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
Asian-inspired Shrimp and Steak Stir-Fry
Ingredients:
- 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 lb steak (sirloin or ribeye), thinly sliced
- 1 cup red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 cup green bell pepper, sliced
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 2 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch ginger, minced
- 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (slurry)
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
- Fresh cilantro, chopped for garnish
Instructions:
- In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, hoisin sauce, oyster sauce, and sesame oil.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large wok or skillet over high heat.
- Add the steak slices and stir-fry until browned. Remove and set aside.
- Add the shrimp and cook until pink. Remove and set aside.
- In the same wok, add the minced garlic and ginger, and sauté until fragrant.
- Add the bell peppers and stir-fry until they start to soften.
- Return the steak and shrimp to the wok, pour in the sauce mixture, and toss to coat.
- Add the cornstarch slurry and stir until the sauce thickens.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and fresh cilantro before serving.
