Sushi Rice Balls Onigiri
Onigiri, or Japanese rice balls, are a fun and flavorful way to enjoy rice in a new form.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups sushi rice (short-grain rice)
- 2 ½ cups water
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Fillings (tuna with mayonnaise, pickled plum, or salted salmon)
- Nori (seaweed) sheets
Instructions:
- Cook the Rice: Rinse the rice and cook with water in a rice cooker or pot. Let it cool slightly once cooked.
- Season the Rice: In a small bowl, mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Stir this mixture into the rice while it’s still warm.
- Shape Onigiri: Wet your hands and form the rice into triangular or round shapes. Create a small indentation and add your preferred filling, then cover it with more rice.
- Wrap and Serve: Wrap the rice balls with a small strip of nori for extra flavor and texture.
