Watermelon-Themed Dessert Recipe
Ingredients:
- Green Cake Layer:
- 1 cup spinach puree or green food coloring
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- White Cream Layer:
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup cream cheese
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Red Jelly Layer:
- 1 packet strawberry or watermelon-flavored jelly
- 1 cup hot water
- 1 cup cold water
- Decorations:
- Chocolate chips for the “watermelon seeds”
Instructions:
- Prepare the Green Cake Layer:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a tart pan.
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and baking soda.
- In another bowl, mix the melted butter, eggs, spinach puree (or green food coloring), milk, and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until well combined.
- Pour the batter into the greased tart pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool completely.
- Prepare the White Cream Layer:
- In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
- In another bowl, beat the cream cheese with sugar and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture until well combined.
- Spread the white cream evenly over the cooled green cake layer.
- Prepare the Red Jelly Layer:
- Dissolve the jelly packet in 1 cup of hot water, stirring until completely dissolved.
- Add 1 cup of cold water and mix well.
- Allow the jelly to cool slightly but not set, then gently pour it over the white cream layer.
- Refrigerate the cake until the jelly layer is fully set.
- Decoration:
- Once the jelly layer is set, decorate with chocolate chips to resemble watermelon seeds.
- Serving:
- Carefully slice and serve your watermelon-themed dessert chilled.
