Black Chocolate Cake Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Cake:
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (preferably black cocoa powder)
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs, at room temperature
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
For the Chocolate Ganache:
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 8 oz semisweet or bittersweet chocolate, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
For the Blackberry Garnish:
- Fresh blackberries
- Optional: edible glitter or gold leaf for decoration
Instructions:
- Preheat Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.
- Make the Cake Batter:
- In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for about 2 minutes until well combined.
- Reduce the speed to low and carefully add the boiling water to the batter. Mix until fully combined. The batter will be thin.
- Bake the Cakes:
- Divide the batter evenly among the prepared cake pans.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.
- Prepare the Chocolate Ganache:
- In a medium saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer. Do not let it boil.
- Remove from heat and add the chopped chocolate. Let it sit for 2-3 minutes, then stir until smooth and glossy.
- Stir in the softened butter until fully incorporated. Allow the ganache to cool to room temperature before using.
- Assemble the Cake:
- Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of chocolate ganache over the top.
- Repeat with the second and third cake layers, spreading ganache between each layer.
- Use the remaining ganache to frost the top and sides of the cake.
- Garnish:
- Arrange fresh blackberries on top of the cake. For an extra touch of elegance, you can add edible glitter or gold leaf.
- Serve:
- Allow the cake to set for at least 30 minutes before slicing. Serve and enjoy the rich, chocolatey goodness!
This black chocolate cake with blackberry garnish is a show-stopping dessert perfect for special occasions. Enjoy your baking!
