Chocolate and Vanilla Striped Cookies
Ingredients:
For the Chocolate Dough:
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
For the Vanilla Dough:
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions:
- Prepare the Chocolate Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract, and mix until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Shape the dough into a rectangle, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Prepare the Vanilla Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract, and mix until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Shape the dough into a rectangle, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Assemble the Cookies:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Roll out the chocolate dough between two sheets of parchment paper into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Roll out the vanilla dough between two sheets of parchment paper into a large rectangle of the same size.
- Carefully place the vanilla dough on top of the chocolate dough. Use a rolling pin to gently press them together.
- Trim the edges to create an even rectangle. Cut the dough into strips, then cut each strip into smaller pieces to form cookies.
- If desired, use a fork or a dough scraper to create ridges on the top of each cookie.
- Bake the Cookies:
- Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 1 inch apart.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set and the cookies are lightly golden.
- Remove from the oven and allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Serve:
- Once the cookies are completely cooled, serve and enjoy!

- Ensure the dough is well chilled before rolling and cutting to maintain clean edges.
- Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
