Chocolate Mousse
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (plus extra for topping)
- 3 large egg whites
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Melt the Chocolate:
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until smooth. Allow the melted chocolate to cool slightly.
- Whip the Cream:
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream until stiff peaks form. Be careful not to overbeat. Set aside.
- Prepare the Meringue:
- In another bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add the granulated sugar and continue to beat until stiff peaks form.
- Combine Ingredients:
- Gently fold the melted chocolate into the whipped cream until well combined.
- Add the vanilla extract and gently fold in the meringue until no streaks remain. Be careful not to deflate the mixture.
- Chill the Mousse:
- Spoon the mousse into serving bowls or a large container.
- Top with extra chocolate chips for garnish.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until set.
- Serve:
- Serve the chocolate mousse chilled.
