Homemade Bread Rolls
Ingredients:
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Additional melted butter (for brushing)
Instructions:
- Activate the Yeast:
- In a small bowl, combine the warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Stir gently and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and egg. Add the frothy yeast mixture and stir to combine.
- Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms. You may need slightly more or less flour depending on the humidity and the type of flour used.
- Knead the Dough:
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic. Alternatively, you can use a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment.
- First Rise:
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
- Shape the Rolls:
- Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12-16 equal portions, depending on the size of rolls you desire. Shape each portion into a smooth ball.
- Place the dough balls into greased individual baking dishes or a large greased baking pan, leaving some space between each roll.
- Second Rise:
- Cover the rolls with a clean kitchen towel and let them rise in a warm place for about 30-45 minutes, or until they have doubled in size and are touching each other.
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake the Rolls:
- Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top and sound hollow when tapped.
- Brush with Butter:
- Remove the rolls from the oven and immediately brush them with melted butter for a soft and flavorful crust.
- Serve and Enjoy:
- Allow the rolls to cool slightly before serving. They are best enjoyed warm, but can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for a couple of days.
These homemade bread rolls are perfect for any meal, and their soft and fluffy texture makes them a favorite for everyone.
