Homemade Bread Rolls

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Additional melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions:

  1. Activate the Yeast:
    • In a small bowl, combine the warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Stir gently and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.
  2. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and egg. Add the frothy yeast mixture and stir to combine.
    • Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms. You may need slightly more or less flour depending on the humidity and the type of flour used.
  3. Knead the Dough:
    • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic. Alternatively, you can use a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment.
  4. First Rise:
    • Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  5. Shape the Rolls:
    • Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12-16 equal portions, depending on the size of rolls you desire. Shape each portion into a smooth ball.
    • Place the dough balls into greased individual baking dishes or a large greased baking pan, leaving some space between each roll.
  6. Second Rise:
    • Cover the rolls with a clean kitchen towel and let them rise in a warm place for about 30-45 minutes, or until they have doubled in size and are touching each other.
  7. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Bake the Rolls:
    • Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top and sound hollow when tapped.
  9. Brush with Butter:
    • Remove the rolls from the oven and immediately brush them with melted butter for a soft and flavorful crust.
  10. Serve and Enjoy:
  • Allow the rolls to cool slightly before serving. They are best enjoyed warm, but can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for a couple of days.

These homemade bread rolls are perfect for any meal, and their soft and fluffy texture makes them a favorite for everyone.
