Layered Beef and Cheese Casserole

 

 

 

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup marinara or tomato sauce
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup ricotta or sour cream
  • 9 lasagna sheets or tortillas (depending on preference)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Beef Filling:
    • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add diced onions and garlic, sauté until translucent.
    • Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it into small pieces. Drain excess grease if needed.
    • Stir in bell peppers, marinara sauce, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for 5 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Layers:
    • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • In a greased baking dish, spread a thin layer of the beef mixture at the bottom.
    • Add a layer of lasagna sheets or tortillas.
    • Spread a layer of the beef mixture, followed by cheddar cheese, and a dollop of ricotta or sour cream.
    • Repeat the layers, ending with cheese on the top.
  3. Bake:
    • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
    • Remove foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
  4. Serve:
    • Let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing. Enjoy your hearty casserole!
