Layered Beef and Cheese Casserole
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup marinara or tomato sauce
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup ricotta or sour cream
- 9 lasagna sheets or tortillas (depending on preference)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Prepare the Beef Filling:
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add diced onions and garlic, sauté until translucent.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it into small pieces. Drain excess grease if needed.
- Stir in bell peppers, marinara sauce, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for 5 minutes.
- Prepare the Layers:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a greased baking dish, spread a thin layer of the beef mixture at the bottom.
- Add a layer of lasagna sheets or tortillas.
- Spread a layer of the beef mixture, followed by cheddar cheese, and a dollop of ricotta or sour cream.
- Repeat the layers, ending with cheese on the top.
- Bake:
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
- Serve:
- Let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing. Enjoy your hearty casserole!
