Whole Foods with Spinach is a fun side dish or meal that combines the earthy flavor of spinach with rich cheese in a simple yet buttery recipe. This recipe is perfect for gatherings, as a side dish, or as a stand-alone treat. Here’s how to do it.
Ingredients:
FOR THE SPINACH FILLING:
• 2 tablespoons olive oil
• large onion, finely chopped
• 3 cloves garlic
• 1 pound (450 g) fresh spinach, washed and chopped (you can also use frozen spinach), chilled and frozen dried)
• Salt and pepper to taste
• 1/4 teaspoon (optional)
• 1/2 cup (120 g) ricotta cheese
• 1/2 cup (100 g) feta cheese, crumbled
• 1/ 4 cups (60 g) cream cheese, softened
• 1 large egg, beaten (reserve some for egg coating)
FOR THE HOSPITAL:
• 1 package (about 1 pound or 450 g) puff pastry, thawed when cold
• Nuts Sesame or poppy seed sauce (optional)
Directions for use:
TAKE COLUMN 1:
• Preheat the oven to 190°C. Line a baking tray with baking paper.
2. Prepare the SPINACH FILLING:
• Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook for 5 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
• Add spinach to the recipe. Cook until the spinach has wilted and the liquid has evaporated, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt, pepper and hazelnuts. Let the mixture cool slightly.
• In a large bowl, combine cooled spinach mixture with ricotta, feta, chem cheese, and beaten egg (reserve the egg for the egg wash). Mix until everything is well mixed.
3. PREPARATION OF THE DOUGH:
• Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured work surface into a wide line of 1/4 length. If you are using pre-rolled paper, you may need to curl it a bit before it comes out.
4. PASTRY PREPARATION:
• Spread the spinach filling evenly over the puff pastry, leaving a small margin around the edges.
• Roll the bread over the jelly, starting from the long side, then roll the closed side. You can also stack the food on top of each other and seal the sides to create a large bag.
• Carefully transfer the pasta roll onto the prepared sheet. After rolling, you can flatten it a little to create a crescent shape.
5. Add the egg. WASH AND DECORATE:
• Brush the top of the yeast with beaten egg. This gives the herb a beautiful golden color when cooking. Sprinkle with sesame seeds or poppy seeds to add flavor and texture, if desired.
6. PREPARATION:
• Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the bread is dark brown and plump.
WORK 7:
• Let the herbs cool for a few minutes before cutting them into pieces. Provide warmth.
Tips:
• Spinach alternatives: You can also use other vegetables, such as kale or chard, instead of spinach to get a different flavor.
• Change the cheese: Try different cheeses according to your taste. Mozzarella or Parmesan cheese can also be added for extra flavor.
